Where Faith Meets Ecology: A Journey from Biology Teacher to Theology Student

Oct 31, 2024

Growing up in a generation where discussions of science and faith were often at odds with one another, I often felt tension as a public high school biology teacher. However, the longer I taught high school biology and the intricacies of the cellular processes, DNA, genetics, and ecology, the more I was filled with awe and wonder. I could not compartmentalize my love of teaching biology from my belief in God the Creator who paid attention to the marvelous detail of the DNA molecule to the vibrant coloring of a butterfly. As I transitioned from a teacher to student once again, the Theology, Ecology, and Food Justice (TEFJ) program at George W. Truett Theological Seminary has offered me a framework and language for theology and science to no longer be at odds with one another.

More Than a Dream: The Fortress Against Death Why the artwork of Käthe Kollwitz remains shockingly resonant today

Nov 11, 2024

In honor of International Education Week, join us for an exploration of the powerful graphic arts of Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945). Known for her poignant depictions of the deep bond between mother and child, Kollwitz’s work highlights the vulnerability of this relationship amid the turmoil of war, violence, and famine.

Her art not only celebrated the strength of women as mothers but also amplified the voices of women’s rights during the Weimar Republic. Kollwitz’s personal loss, with her son Peter dying in World War I, fueled her lifelong commitment to anti-war advocacy, which she continued until her death just months before the end of World War II.

Engage in thought-provoking discussions led by Crowder and Schuetz, and receive a complimentary special edition gallery guide from the Martin Museum. Don’t miss this chance to dive into Kollwitz’s impactful legacy!

Baylor Journalism Public Relations & New Media Study Abroad Interest Session I

Nov 12, 2024

We are excited to announce a new Baylor JPR&NM Study Abroad program launching this summer, which will take students and faculty to Vienna, Austria. The program, themed “Communicating with Global Audiences,” will run from May 26 to June 27, 2025, spanning five weeks.

This program is thoughtfully designed to balance academic rigor with enriching cultural experiences, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in Austria's unique culture. Situated in Central Europe, it lies between Germany, Italy, and Hungary.

During the five-week Study Abroad program, students will have the opportunity to visit museums, cycle around the city, attend classical concerts, explore iconic landmarks, and travel to Salzburg, all while examining the fields of global journalism, public relations, and new media.

Courses offered include:

  • Writing and Editing for Online Media: Mia Moody, Ph.D.
  • Special Studies/Seminar in Mass Communication: Global Advertising & Public Relations: Marlene Neill, Ph.D.
  • Gender, Race & Media: Mia Moody, Ph.D.
  • PR Writing: Marlene Neill, Ph.D.

To enhance accessibility, we are willing to waive prerequisite courses and welcome students from other majors to join us. Hear more at our Interest Session!
